We're here!
Welcome to freedominprison.org! This is the new, online platform for the Christian Science Joint Committee on Institutional Service in Massachusetts.
So what exactly is this Joint Committee, anyway? Well, at its core, the Joint Committee is a collection of Christian Science branch churches in Massachusetts that provide Christian Science activities and services to people confined inside government-sponsored institutions like prisons, mental hospitals and juvenile facilities. The Joint Committee, administratively run by an Executive Committee, helps fund Christian Science lectures inside institutions, to organize an annual, statewide conference for institutional workers, to communicate between different Christian Science branch churches, and to provide any logistical and/or prayerful support for issues that might arise in the course of institutional work.
So why have a website? The idea is to create a kind of "hub" for anyone - Christian Scientist or not - interested in the idea of mental freedom from confinement, limitation and imprisonment.
While the Executive Committee intends to share the activity, inspiration and resources available within Christian Science institutional work in Massachusetts, the goal is for freedominprison.org to contribute to the much wider, ongoing work of letting people know that, whether inside or outside of an institution, they are loved and are capable of love.
So what will be on this website? Let's see...
- Posts like this one with interviews, first-person accounts and analysis related to Christian Science institutional work in Massachusetts, plus spiritual inspiration and announcements for related events
- Information for those interested in volunteering as a Christian Science institutional worker
- A "Members-only" page that includes an archive of Joint Committee newsletters and other resources
- A way to contact the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee is in the early stages of running this platform, so please, if you have any ideas, input or questions, please head over to the Contact page, and get in touch!
