“…stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations”

2 min read

The institutional spiritual study guide topic for April is: “…stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations” (Isa. 54:2 stretch).

A Second Reader in a branch church a few years ago mentioned that she often went to The Essential Evangelical Parallel Bible to gather additional insight into passages included in the Bible Lesson. For this particular passage, and reading a little beyond, here are some of the translations from this source:

New King James Version:

“2 And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings: Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. 3 For you shall expand to the right and to the left,"

New Living Translation:

“2 Spread out your home, and spare no expense! 3 For you will soon be bursting at the seams”

The Message:

"Spread out! Think big! …You’re going to need lots of elbow room for your growing family.”

As we have been embracing the idea of  “…one grand family of Christ’s followers” (Mis. 273: 14) over the past few months, these translations of our April study topic seem to embrace the idea of growth of our “family”.
